The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the way we live, with many of us enduring prolonged periods in isolation while others have to work against the clock on the frontline. Not easy as it may sound, we all need to adapt to get through this tough time. Although the pandemic has brought us unexpected and difficulties, every cloud has a silver lining. We all hope that the pandemic will soon be over and we will get back to our “normal life”, but are our lives still the same as before?

My father is in his retirement
It sounds very normal, right? We grow up, our parents are getting older, and they will reach to the age of completing all the jobs and resting after dozens of years working, right?
The first story is shared by my close friend, that her father is just in his retirement for a year, and things have changed his life and the whole family completely. From a busy person, now every day he has nothing to do but monitor too carefully all the housework, he has lunch at 10 AM then dinner at 4 PM, and from an easy-going person, he turns to be a detailed and nosy one. Plus, he’s addicted to shopping and there are small quarrels almost every day with his wife because he has too much free time. My friend asked me if what other retired dads do, and I have no clue.
The second story is how I am observing my CEO, he is nearly 70 now and still so passionate about his work. Maybe he is not a homely man, he enjoys his work very much and still has lots of time with his children and grandchildren. Sometimes, he makes me think that do we really need to retire if we have great work that creates lots of value for others?
I am not here to judge who is right or who is wrong because I respect all the choices and we are all doing our best to diversify this life! I am only here to discuss, who would you want to be? And for the #1 dad above, do you have any good recommendations?
And lots more questions as follows, let’s come to Advance and share with us your thoughts!
    Questions to ponder:
    1. Lots of youngsters nowadays, under the pressure of working, often say “I want to retire”. If you retired, how would you spend your time for?
    2. Some people said that, when you can save 24 times the spending you needs for a year, you can retire anytime then! Do you agree with it, and what is the suitable year to retire? Why?
    3. Back to the above stories, let’s share with us yours, do you empathize with dad #1 or dad #2, or what is your case? Are there any suggested activities for dad #1? How to make him happy then your family can be happy back then?
    4. I see in many developed countries in Asia like Singapore, Japan, the elderly are still working (as a bus/taxi driver, or hygiene staff, coordinators at the airports, etc.) to maintain their living, how do you see these cases?
    5. Do you think that society should invest more in the activities for the elderly?

Thank Fanbaso Đinh for your topic
