    LONELINESS (June 30, 2019)

    (23:41:42 PM 28/06/2019)

When the word “loneliness” crosses your mind, I bet most of you think of “alone” at once. Undoubtedly, being alone translates into having no one to share, thus evoking loneliness. Many FAs, in this regard, definitely have acute sense of loneliness. However, it is common knowledge that even many elderly people are lonely while surrounded by their children, having their self-worth lessened. Wives are lonely alongside their spouses when sharing becomes a luxury. Even people in a romantic relationship, though happy it seems, find themselves lonely as if they are stuck in a deserted island just because his/her partners fail to grasp their feeling and help shoulder the burden. And some of you find yourself lonely even when all your friends are babbling around you and parties are in full swing. Then, loneliness is not unique to any group of age.
In this day and age, loneliness becomes a kind of serious syndrome which results in many negative effects, including depression and suicide. Ways to tackle loneliness are numerous; one of them is rushing into a relationship or marriage. I myself condemns this as a terrible way, for it can lead to further consequences and even lasting loneliness afterwards. But what should we do to deal with loneliness?

    QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:

    1. How many kinds of loneliness do you know? At what age do people feel most lonely? What is the difference between the elderly and the youth when it comes to loneliness?
    2. How do technological advances contribute to people’s strong sense of loneliness?
    3. Some people say FAs often feel lonelier than people in a relationship. Do you agree? Why do people still feel lonely in their relationship?
    4. What are harmful consequences of being lonely?
    5. Being alone and lonely also brings you some benefits. Do you agree? Why?
    6. How can we tackle the loneliness? Some people said working hard can make you less lonely. Do you agree? Why? What activities can help reduce your loneliness?
