English proverb of the day

"The negative side of the American Dream comes when people pursue success at any cost, which in turn destroys the vision and the dream "

  • Topic of this Week: "EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCE (August 25, 2019)"

People often confuse independence  with the ability to feed themselves only. In actual reality,  independence doesn’t necessarily mean being emotionally independent.
So what is emotional dependence? To put it simply, emotional dependence  just as dangerous as drug addiction; hard as you may try, you fail to  give up a partner who mistreat you or your emotional state depends a lot  on how others treat you.
I used to hear of a female professor,  who failed to abandon her husband although he beat her often. Later, I  learned that in the past, her father left his wife and his children, for  which she partly blamed herself. The break-up with the first husband  confirmed her feeling that she was not worth being loved. I am convinced  that her situation where the emotional independence has been long lost,  is obvious due to her troubled past experience.
We can see many  other cases of emotional dependence in our real life. Some people never  cease to moan about being uncared for or spend hours longing for  messages from boyfriends or girlfriends without focusing on their study  or work. Also, some people easily lose temper at their colleagues’  feedback however constructive the comments are. When our emotional  states are vulnerable to any external forces, our life will be flung  into the world of turbulence where peace and happiness are never to be  found.

    BREAK-UP (May 12, 2019)

    (11:31:39 AM 10/05/2019)

Break-ups seem no strange to me  at all. In reality, I have gone through many minor break-ups and a huge  break-up in my life, thanks to each of which my life turned a new leaf.
Recently, the high-profile divorce (a huge break-up) between the famous  Trung Nguyen couple shocked the public and I contemplated the high  possibilities of break-ups in a person’s life.  Solid and stable as any relationship seems, no one can anticipate  coming changes, many of which are toxic to your relationships.
Your  boyfriend meets and falls for someone prettier. Your girlfriend may  want to go her own way after the graduation when she was approached by a  more mature and highly educated man. Your spouse is too hurtful to put  up with your infidelity or your thoughtlessness (lack of care for  women’s emotional needs) kills every piece of love day by day. In many  cases, break-ups are inescapable.
I heard many stories of girls or  boys torturing or killing themselves after break-ups with their partner.  What they leave behind are heart-broken parents and unfulfilled dreams  to build a bright life ahead. On the other hand, many people choose to  move on with an intense aspiration to be more successful and more  devoted to their life goal.
I myself chose the second option.  Break-ups are of course painful to everyone, but putting them down to  experience and thanking them for encouraging your self-improvement may  definitely lead you to an even fruitful relationship in the future. What  do you think?
Come to Advance Hanoi this Sunday to discuss this  interesting topic and enjoy a typical joyful Sunday with tea break and  dinner.

    QUESTIONS TO PONDER:

     1. What are possible causes of  break-up in love? How are they different from the causes of break-ups in  marriages? Many people attribute most break-ups to financial problems.  Do you think finance matters much?
     2. What instils a man to break up  with his partner? How is it different from the causes of a woman  wishing to break up with her guy?
     3. Vietnamese married couples  many years ago used to be fear break-up, but now things have changed.  What do you think these changes are?
     4. Break-ups are more painful to girls/women than boys/men. How do you find this statement?
     5. In some cases, break-ups are beneficial to both. What are the signs of a positive break-up?
     6. Why do you think many people can hardly get over their break-up?  What should they do to build more resilience to break-ups? What lessons  should they learn from a break-up?
