English proverb of the day

"The negative side of the American Dream comes when people pursue success at any cost, which in turn destroys the vision and the dream "

    BIOETHICS (June 9, 2019)

    (08:53:35 AM 01/06/2019)

Bioethics is the study of the ethical issues emerging from advances in biology and medicine. It is also moral discernment as it relates to medical policy and practice. Bioethics are concerned with the ethical questions that arise in the relationships among life sciences, biotechnology, medicine and medical ethics, politics, law, and philosophy. It includes the study of values relating to primary care and other branches of medicine.
Euthanasia - literally meaning “good death“, euthanasia is the process of intending to end the life of an individual to stop his or her pain and suffering. Euthanasia is also loosely called as a mercy-killing, assisted suicide, or doctor-assisted suicide.
Death - brain death is the complete loss of brain function (including involuntary activity necessary to sustain life). It differs from persistent vegetative state, in which the person is alive and some autonomic functions remain. However, it is quite difficult to figure out the real death moment even for experienced specialists to do the next steps of mandatory medical procedure. For instance, whether they should start the process of organ transplantation of a dead body to save the lives of other patients who have been staying in line to get the donor organs even for many years.
Confidentiality is one of the core duties of medical practice. It requires health care providers to keep a patient's personal health information private unless consent to release the information is provided by the patient.

    QUESTIONS TO PONDER:
    1. Should euthanasia be legal? Why or why not?
    2. Organ transplantation from an almost dead body should be conducted as soon as possible. However, the thing is that it is very difficult to identify the real moment of death. Some (those who need the organs or medical staff and others) might misuse this process. How can this problem be solved? What about using organs from prisoners for this purpose?
    3. Can abortion be considered an ethic issue in your opinion? In which case it should be forbidden or in which not? Should our society assign fetuses a moral status?
    4. Should a medical doctor let their patients with lethal disease know about their health condition?
    5. Professional bioethics for medical staff. Why is confidentiality important? What if a family member asks how the patient is doing? When can confidentiality be breached?
